It's Summertime!...
Kids are out of school. They're SO excited and ready to swim, play, bike, go fishing
OR
Stay up late under the stars telling scary stories at the bondfire while roasting

It's up to us adults to make sure they have a FUN SAFE SUMMER.

- 5 main safety risks that cause the majority of unintentional child injuries/deaths

Drowning - up to 89% over the annual monthly average
Bicycle and wheeled sports injuries - up by 45%
Falls - up by 21%
Motor vehicle - up by 20%
Pedestrian - up by 16%
Did you know?
Children 4 years old and under have the highest drowning death rate
(two times greater than other age groups).
They also account for 80% of home drownings.
Boys drowning rate - TWICE that of girls.
Black children ages 5 -14 drowning rate THREE times that of their white counterparts.
Floaties are fun YET they give a false sense of security - they are NOT 100% reliable.
FACT:
--- Nearly 9 out of 10 fatal events occur during a brief lapse in supervision —
A child can drown in a matter of seconds...

Grossly graphic cigarette labels - Is this an effective scare tactic?
What causes about 443,000 deaths in the U.S. a year?
Per the FDA, come fall 2012 U.S Cigarette makers MUST SHOW a GRAPHIC picture
with a warning on the cigarette label on the negative health effects of using tobacco
(there will be nine different pictures).

IS THERE A MAGIC PILL?
Everyone seems to be looking for the MAGIC PILL.
What is this magic pill phenomenon in America?
It's sprayed all over commercials from viagra, celebrex to weight loss PGX fiber pills.
Really?
Have you seen the advertisements?
Sometimes, I'm not sure what they're selling or if it's some kind of Saturday Night Live sketch where
they're mocking pharmaceutical companies.
Do you think doctors have any link to getting pharmaceutical kickbacks?
Whatever happened to take an aspirin and call me in the morning
OR
an apple a day phenomenon?
Anyway, I was going to write my research thesis on prescription drug use but I decided against it
because it was just too depressing, caused anxiety and there was an anti-anxiety commercial
on t.v. while I was contemplating -- which made me start to think, "Do I need a magic pill?".
--- By the way most of these pharmaceutical commericals are geared towards housewives during the daytime and senior citizens. Hmmmm - realllly???
The power of persuasion which may NOT be so great anymore since the pharmaceutical companies have to list the onslaught of side effects.
Then it makes you wonder WHY would you even dare take the magic pill????

EVERYDAY IS A GOOD DAY! :)
MY HEART IS WIDE OPEN:
The process of waking up before my eyes are open tells me,
"Today is a good day even before I open my eyes my heart is wide open."
I reflect on a story told to me by the local pizza guy ---
During those moments of,
"Woe is me!",
You know those moments??
When you can't even stand your own self...
THEN:
That young vibrant beautiful girl smiling from ear to ear comes through the door.
Arrrgghhh, just what you need during your moment of self pity and self loathing.
Everyone turns their heads because she just lights up the room.
You know that kind of girl?
She hits you hard -- right smack in your grinch heart.
"She's just bleeds love and joy and happiness?"
You can feel it reaching out to you - how weird is that?
Can this invisible aura of warmth and sqwuiishy-sqwuissshyness
be bottled up and given to me?
ALL this coming from a little power-packed resilient 10 year old.
Who'd a thunk?
A 10 year old girl with so much wisdom from
her perspective where she sits -- just turned my life around.
Yeahhh, where she sits everyday beaming with pure JOY ----
Yes, from her perspective where she sits everyday in a
large high-tech remote control wheelchair due to an unfortunately
rare debilitating terminal neurological illness.
Yes, from her perspective where she sits it's clear -- the VIEW is AMAZING!
She has total control and asks for NO hand outs --
but gives to others in the pure form of
love and kindness with a beaming warm heart.
Life changing moment all from the angelic 10 year old girl that
unexpectedly comes through the door beaming sunshine -
Little voice inside you tells from that moment on ---
EVERY morning you wake up -- you don't EVEN need to open your eyes to know:
*** EVERYDAY IS A GOOD DAY! ***
**
So, I start my blog off with pure and simple intentions knowing today is a gift because
EVERYDAY IS A GOOD DAY!..
**
So, this begs the question,
"What is your perspective?
Here's a youtube music video clip of Creed, "With arms wide open" to all mankind with the heartfelt perspective to welcome and wish our young into the world with LOVE and ARMS WIDE OPEN....
Keep in mind though we each may have the love of others
and this is all about perspective --
it's ultimately up to the SELF what path we each choose.
